Annual Bill Kirby Memorial St. Stephen’s Day Walk
The details for this year’s St Stephen’s Day Bill Kirby Memorial walk in Tralee have been released and organizers are expecting a strong turnout again on this Christmas.
The four-mile walk is held every year on 26 December and is organized by Michael “Fox” O’Connor. It takes place in memory of the late Bill Kirby, who supported the event for many years. His family has been supporting the event since his death back in 2008. The walk started in 1999, and since then, it has become a regular part of the Christmas period in Tralee, raising large amounts of money for charity over the years.
Money raised from this year’s walk will go to the Kerry Hospice Foundation. The foundation was set up in 1990. It helps fund palliative care services in Kerry in partnership with the HSE. All funds raised are used directly for patient care.
People will begin gathering from 11 AM at Kirby’s Brogue Inn on Rock Street, and the walk will get underway at 11.30 AM. The route will pass through Rock Street, Monavalley, Bracker Regan Road, and Caherslee before returning via Pembroke Street. Participants will be able to warm up with hot drinks back at the Brogue Inn once the walk is completed
