Eid ul Fitr 2026
Eid al-Fitr is not just a cultural festival; it is a gift from Allah to all Muslims around the world. It marks the end of the Holy month of Ramadan. Fasting is declared obligatory, and worship, patience, and charity are practiced as per the directions of the Holy Prophet ﷺ.
As per Muslim belief, after thirty days of fasting, prayers, and good deeds, Allah has granted them the reward of Eid’s happiness for their patience and worship. Eid al Fitr begins with the special Eid prayer, which is a Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and a symbol of gratitude.
When is Eid Al Fitr 2026
Eid al-Fitr 2026 is expected to be celebrated on Friday, 20 March 2026. Celebrations will start on the evening of 19th March 2026 across the UK.
Eid ul Fitr in the UK
In different cities of the United Kingdom, Eid joy is felt everywhere, whether it is the East London Mosque, Leeds Grand Mosque, Cardiff Mosque, or parks such as Small Heath Park (Birmingham) and Platt Fields Park (Manchester). Thousands of Muslims gather here in open fields for the Eid prayer.
As soon as the news of the new moon arrives from local Islamic centers, excitement and happiness are seen everywhere. Children wake up early morning, families prepare new clothes, and neighbors congratulate each other with joy.
Eid Day Activities
After the Eid prayer, every moment of the day becomes a combination of worship and happiness. Pakistanis, Bengalis, Arabs, Turks, Somalis, Africans, and new Muslims living in the United Kingdom all celebrate Eid together, and they express gratitude for the happiness given by Allah.
In the streets of Southall, Whitechapel, Bradford, and Edinburgh’s Nicolson Square, sweet shops, halal bakeries, and family gatherings come alive. People share traditional foods such as sheer khurma, baklava, maqlooba, mandi, samosas, and other sweets.
Cultural Traditions
Besides Muslims, Eid has now become a recognized festival in the United Kingdom. Local councils, schools, and offices offer Eid greetings. Famous places like the London Eye, Birmingham Library, and Edinburgh Castle are illuminated with green light in celebration of Eid.
But behind the food, new clothes, and gatherings, the actual purpose of Eid al-Fitr remains the same: to express gratitude for Allah’s guidance during Ramadan, to pray for the acceptance of their deeds, and to share happiness with family and community, even if you are thousands of miles away from your homeland.
Eid ul Fitr Mubarak to all Muslims!
